NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, passed a major milestone at the start of 2021, having welcomed more than 5,000 candidates through its NVQ training programmes, 20 years since they were first introduced.
Over recent years NHBC’s NVQ offering has been specially tailored to provide a greater focus on key house-building areas, at Levels 3 to 7, mainly around Construction Site Management.
A construction NVQ is a benchmark qualification that proves occupational competence to employers. Some NVQs, which can also be the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree, lead to membership of professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).
In the next instalment of a series of case studies looking at the success of the scheme, we spoke with CALA Homes’ Nicolae Botnarenco, who completed his NVQ this February:
NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Supervision – Residential Development (Construction)
The main challenge was to carry out the day-to-day tasks, in addition to completing modules, answering questions and gathering evidence.
It was great to learn new technical skills and work closely with the NHBC Standards and NHBC app on my phone. Plus, I was able to record evidence while on the site near Reading, doing my work.
My assessor was really helpful and could always be reached by phone or email. In general, it was a very good experience and I’m now looking forward to completing Level 6 in the future.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to develop and make a career in construction.
I’ve been in construction for ten years now, working with various developers. In 2016 I was promoted from forklift driver to materials controller and then two years ago I was offered the chance to become a Trainee Assistant Site Manager at CALA, which I accepted.
I love what I do and I’m doing my best to learn and work at the same time, with the aim of achieving a Level 6 in due course.
With great support, regular meetings, clearly explained expectations and prompt response to questions, my assessor ensured that I had everything in place that I needed to undertake this course.
This was a really enjoyable course that has assisted me further with my development and knowledge for my role as a building inspector. My assessor provided me with excellent support and guidance and I have recommended this course to colleagues.
In my role as a building inspector, the modules that I completed within my NVQ helped to assist me expanding my knowledge of building control and my assessor provided great support throughout.
The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management (Residential Development) covers all aspects of site management and is perfect for people working in an assistant site manger role like me. My assessor worked around my busy schedule and offered good quality feedback and guidance.
I would highly recommend the NVQ Level 6 Construction Site Management course to others. My assessor has been excellent, giving me support throughout and answering questions as needed to allow me to push on at a great pace.
Throughout my Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management (Residential Development), my assessor made time for me when I was struggling with certain tasks. They made me feel comfortable undertaking the diploma and I would recommend learning with NHBC.
My experience of undertaking a Level 6 Diploma in Senior Site Inspection was relaxing and enjoyable, and I owe this to my assessor who was excellent in how he delivered and explained the training and any professional discussions.
My assessor was on hand throughout my Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management (Residential Development). He was incredibly helpful and quickly identified my learning needs and adapted his approach to best support me. Based on my experience I would definitely recommend an NVQ Diploma from NHB
I completed the NVQ levels 4, 6, and 7 in Construction, and they were excellent. The allocated tutor was well-versed, extremely knowledgeable and supportive throughout. I would encourage anyone involved with site management to complete their course through the NHBC.
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support from my tutor.
