Read moreWe spoke with Kakha Buchukuri, a Site Manager at Vistry Group who has now completed his Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management.
Kakha had previously worked in healthcare and earned a medical degree but decided to change direction and build a new career in construction. After working in roofing, flooring, and carpentry Kakha moved into site supervision and began his Level 7 qualification in 2020.
NHBC offers NVQs from Levels 3 to 7 in a range of subjects including construction site management, site inspection and contract operations.
Kakha explained “I had a lot of experience in my role but where the NVQ was beneficial for me was the way it allowed me to pull all that knowledge and practice together and evidence everything I’ve learned. My assessor was very good and able to answer any questions I had or offer support if I needed it. This NVQ has also opened the door to CIOB membership as well. It was certainly the right qualification for me and I am glad I have completed it.”
We asked Kakha about his role and if he would recommend a career in construction to others.
Kakha said “Yes, I would encourage people from all backgrounds to join the construction industry. I have done several different jobs before taking on a Site Manager role so I know first-hand that there are a lot of opportunities available and chances for everyone to progress if they work hard. It’s an industry that needs more people who are keen to do the job right and it will benefit the house-building industry as a whole to have new talented people coming through and gaining experience - which of course you can then apply to an NVQ qualification!”
After cementing his construction knowledge and completing his Level 7 NVQ, which is equivalent to a master’s degree, Kakha is looking forward to continuing his career in the house-building industry.
Richard Bambridge, Future Talent Lead at Vistry Group, said “It is great to see knowledgeable and experienced people like Kakha achieving a qualification that showcases their skills and expertise. The Level 7 NVQ in Construction Senior Management takes a lot of hard work and everyone at Vistry is proud of what he’s achieved and that he has taken the opportunity to complete this qualification through NHBC.”
NHBC is committed to raising standards in house building by championing high-quality homes. NHBC is proud to offer qualifications that meet both the needs of the house-building industry and support individuals in their current roles so they can demonstrate the essential skills and knowledge required for career progression.
