Eesa enjoyed studying science at A Level and went on to complete a degree in Chemistry at the University of Warwick. However, after finishing university, they realised a career in this subject or research was not right for them and so looked for other opportunities.
Eesa was not sure what their next step might be but saw an advertisement for the programme on LinkedIn. After a successful application they joined in September 2024
Eesa explained “I read the description of the programme and thought it looked interesting. What caught my attention was the rotations in very different functions which I felt would give me a broader insight into the organisation. I also thought it would provide a great opportunity to find out what I enjoyed most and what I would like to do in the future.”
As part of the programme graduates get to experience working in four different areas of the organisation: Standards, Innovation and Research, Underwriting, Commercial Services and Claims Operations. Eesa is currently working in Claims Operations.
Eesa said “In Claims I get to see and understand the issues and defects that can occur in houses, as well as the process to rectify them and resolve issues. Also in more complex claims, when there are multiple parties involved in the process, I find managing this and achieving a solution both engaging and gratifying.”
During the two-year programme NHBC provides the tools, resources and support graduates need to learn and develop.
Eesa added “We were each given a mentor from our chosen business function who met with us in the first few weeks to help us settle in, as well as being a point of contact for any queries. Andrea, my mentor, was very supportive and helped me settle in; I look forward to working with her and the team when I start my next rotation in Commercial Services.”
Eesa said “In my opinion what makes NHBC different is that profits are reinvested into the organisation. The company is not motivated by maximising shareholder value, instead it is solely driven by one purpose: raising standards and protecting homeowners.”
