NHBC backs Government’s Construction Skills Package, commits £100 million to training programme and encourages people from all backgrounds to now consider a career in housebuilding

“We welcome the Government’s commitment to the housebuilding sector, with its landmark £600 million investment which is set to help tackle long-standing skills shortages and deliver the 1.5 million new homes our country urgently needs.

At NHBC, we believe a thriving construction industry depends on a pipeline of well-trained, motivated people who are ready to step onto site from day one with confidence and competence.

That’s why we are investing £100 million in a national network of 12 new multi-skill training hubs across the UK. These will initially deliver high quality trained apprenticeships in key trades including bricklaying, groundwork and site carpentry. The immersive training in real site conditions from day one will provide the next generation with the skills and support they need to succeed in building new homes to the highest industry standard.

The housebuilding industry offers excellent career opportunities. It’s a sector that is evolving fast and offers secure, well-paid and progressive career paths. Whether you're just starting out, looking for a career change, or returning to work, there is a place for you in this industry. We want people of all ages and backgrounds to see construction not just as a job, but as a rewarding and long-term career that builds futures in every sense.

The Government’s investment of £600 million is a pivotal moment for the housebuilding industry. With Government, training providers and the industry working together, we have a powerful and unique opportunity to equip thousands of people with the skills urgently needed to build the quality homes of tomorrow. By strengthening the construction workforce, we can boost productivity and grow a more skilled, inclusive and sustainable workforce and industry.”
