Lynn Johnson: NHBC's Apprenticeship Scheme

Lynn Johnson from Ormskirk in West Lancashire has moved from selling houses to building them thanks to a supportive employer and starting a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor (CSS) apprenticeship through NHBC.

Background:

Lynn began the CSS apprenticeship in November 2021 but started working for Persimmon Homes as a sales advisor in 1991 at the age of 21. Earlier in her career Lynn needed more flexibility to look after her young son but as he grew up, she realised she wanted a new challenge.

Learning that works:

Created in collaboration with industry experts and leading house builders, the Level 4 CSS apprenticeship offers dedicated online learning days that cover a range of modules, including communication, health and safety and construction technology to name just a few.

The apprenticeship also allows for plenty of time on site to apply learning, understand how different aspects work in practice and ensure homes are built to the highest quality standards.

For many people a house is the largest purchase they will ever make and increasingly consumers expect high standards from their homes.

Lynn said,

‘It’s never too late to start an apprenticeship in construction and I’m sure this will open up other opportunities for me too. At times it is hard work but it’s so rewarding working as part of a team – when you see the results, and especially when people move into their new home, you feel like you’ve really achieved something great.’

Looking ahead:

Lynn is looking forward to completing her apprenticeship and continuing her rewarding career in the house-building industry with Persimmon Homes.
