Government and External Affairs

Support for policymakers
NHBC is the UK’s leading independent provider of warranty and insurance for new homes. We are uniquely placed as an independent organisation working with the house-building industry while also providing protection for over 1.5 million policyholders through our 10-year Buildmark policy which covers 70-80% of new homes built in the UK.
The Government and External Affairs team works closely with stakeholders and policymakers in Westminster, the Devolved Assemblies and the European Union.
Thanks to our independence, and with over 80 years' experience in the house-building industry, we are well-placed to provide advice and assistance on housing matters.
We can help with
- Unique statistics on house-building by constituency
- Site visits and supporting media activity
- Briefings ahead of Parliamentary debates
- Roundtables with housing industry stakeholders

Data on house-building
NHBC statistics represent a unique source of detailed up-to-date information on new home construction and the house-building industry. We are the official supplier of housing statistics to Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) and the only source of data which breaks down housing registrations to constituency level.
NHBC figures are available well ahead of Government figures, and some can even be provided on a daily basis. Our figures relate to new homes registered with NHBC for its 10-year warranty, which covers around 70-80% of all new homes built in the UK.

Political and industry engagement
High-level political events
NHBC regularly hosts high-level events, with political speakers including the MHCLG Secretary of State, the Housing Minister and Shadow Ministers. We have offices in London and Milton Keynes and are delighted to be able to offer these spaces to policymakers as a platform for speeches or announcements.
As well as hosting regular policy roundtables drawing together key stakeholders from across the industry with policymakers, NHBC hosts annual events at the party conferences to contribute to current debates around housing.
Supporting international best practice in housing standards
The Government and External Affairs team is active in programmes to promote the UK's leadership on build quality and share best practice with international partners.
NHBC chairs and provides the Secretariat to the International Housing and Home Warranty Association (IHHWA), is represented on the Association of European Home Warranty Organisations (AEHWO), and provides the secretariat to the Consortium of European Building Control (CEBC).
Site visits in UK constituencies
With access to 70-80% of house-building sites across the UK, NHBC regularly hosts site visits for elected representatives in constituencies around the UK.
